About the role
The Environmental Educator will lead elementary students (2nd-6th grade) through field trips and classroom presentations, teaching critical environmental messages.
Responsibilities
- Work in teams of 6-8 Educators to prepare materials and activity stations for class field trips.
- Lead 3–5 hour field trips for small groups of 10-12 elementary students.
- Help students interpret discoveries in the vernal pool grassland, at our non-working dairy site, or in-class.
- Facilitate learning and sharing among students who come prepared with basic program knowledge that they have pre-learned with their teachers in class.
- Maintain a positive learning environment & calmly manage behavioral issues.
- New Educators are required to attend training days before the field trip season starts and then will spend the first 4 shifts developing knowledge of the stations in the assigned program by observing experienced Educators leading groups.
- Want to drive to schools, meet new teachers, and present in front of classrooms of children on topics related to the environment. (requires proof of auto insurance)
Requirements
- Background in biology, natural history, and/or environmental studies or experience teaching
- Enjoys teaching and spending time with children
- Able to commit to working entire 2025/2026 Field Trip Season (Aug-Nov/Jan-May)
- Team player with a demonstrated history of working well with others
- Engaging and friendly
- Sense of humor
- Love of nature and being outside for work
- Ability to walk up to two miles on uneven, unpaved ground
Qualifications
- Satisfactory completion of a background check
Skills
- Experience working with children
- Knowledge of vernal pool ecosystem, agricultural, or environmental studies

Schedule
Shift work, Field trips are 4-6 hours M-F from 8am-1:30pm, in class presentations hours vary. Some weekend days may be needed.
