About the role

This is a paid internship running concurrently with the semester, with a flexible schedule based on the school schedule, including availability for week day hours and some evenings and weekends. On-premise housing may be supplied.

Responsibilities

  • Aid/lead environmental education instruction according to YMCA curriculum guidelines, preparing lesson plans.
  • Plan, set up, and deliver a variety of activities tailored to age groups, maintaining high levels of engagement and interest.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with students and parents, encouraging their involvement and identifying potential volunteers.
  • Provide clear and accurate instruction aligned with age-appropriate standards, ensuring participant comprehension.
  • Utilize teachable moments to discuss character development and provide constructive feedback through positive motivation techniques.
  • Maintain schedules, record attendance, progress, and other required data, and report any incidents or accidents promptly.
  • Adhere to YMCA policies, rules, and procedures, including emergency and safety protocols, and ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Model and teach the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all activities.
  • Create a positive and nurturing learning environment to foster youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Intern candidate enrolled in a relevant undergraduate/graduate degree program or have previous internship experience.
  • Previous experience working with children and adults in various sports, arts, sciences, STEAM, archery, boating, climbing walls, leading educational hikes, campfire programs, and seasonal activities.
  • Must demonstrate instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications.
