About the role
Conducts preliminary and comprehensive environmental field inspections of commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial enterprises including asbestos abatement, demolition projects and other situations to ensure enforcement and compliance with County, State, and Federal laws and regulations.
Prepares technical reports of the site and/or facility. Cites violators and provides technical environmental assistance to the general public.
Completes training and obtains certification and licensing required to fulfill the required duties of the position. Assists with the training of new environmental engineer personnel relative to the policies and procedures of the department.

Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering; Industrial Technology; Public Health; Environmental Planning; Environmental Policy; Environmental Health; Environmental Management; Science; or Natural Resources, Mathematics, or Information Technology
- Two (2) years full-time work experience in the environmental and sustainability field
- Valid driver's license and current proof of insurance
- Pass a required drug test as part of the pre-employment background check process
Qualifications
- Knowledge of environmental regulations at the county, state, and federal levels
- Knowledge of air pollution emissions and industrial processes
- Knowledge of operation, calibration, and troubleshooting of portable monitoring devices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn new technologies and regulations
- Commitment to environmental protection and public health
- Ability to create technical diagrams and drawings
- Ability to perform various types of exertion and wear required personal protective equipment
