About the role

At AKS, we are growing and building for the future. We bring together multidisciplined experts across the land development, energy, and infrastructure markets to take on bigger challenges and deliver solutions that make a real difference. Our teams combine creativity, technical excellence, and a collaborative, hands-on approach to solve complex problems and deliver results our clients and communities can count on. We take pride in our work and our ability to provide opportunities for our teams, support each other’s growth, and look ahead to what’s next. When you join AKS, you will find opportunities to take ownership of meaningful projects, learn, lead, and make an impact from day one.

We are looking for an experienced Environmental Construction Manager (ECM) to support environmental compliance during construction of utility-scale energy projects. In this role, you will work with AKS, the EPC contractor, and project teams to monitor field activities and help ensure project requirements are understood, followed, and documented. Your work will support compliance with applicable environmental and cultural resource requirements, including stormwater controls and, where applicable, Section 106. If you are comfortable in the field, communicate clearly, and keep thorough records, this role offers a direct impact on project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor construction activities in the field and communicate environmental requirements to the EPC contractor and project teams.
  • Coordinate regularly with EPS on the EPC’s compliance status, field observations, emerging concerns, and corrective actions.
  • Support compliance with applicable Washington State and federal requirements, permits, plans, and project commitments, including stormwater, cultural resources, paleontological resources, and archaeological resources.
  • Support implementation of Section 106 requirements when applicable to the project, coordinating with EPS and qualified cultural resource specialists as needed.
  • Complete applicable project, permit, agency, and self-reporting forms, and submit documentation within required timelines.
  • Attend regular project meetings, provide agenda updates on environmental requirements, and follow up on open items.
  • Prepare weekly reports covering field activities, compliance observations, issues, corrective actions, and upcoming requirements.
  • Maintain organized supporting records, including inspection documentation, photographs, correspondence, and other audit materials.
  • Support audits and compliance reporting by gathering records, responding to information requests, and tracking resulting actions.
  • Promptly communicate environmental concerns and potential noncompliance through established project channels and follow corrective actions through resolution.

Requirements

  • Experienced in environmental compliance, environmental inspection, or construction oversight on active construction projects.
  • Familiar with Washington State environmental requirements and construction-phase practices, including stormwater compliance and cultural resource procedures.
  • Able to understand project permits, environmental plans, and commitments and communicate requirements clearly to field teams.
  • Skilled at completing forms, writing reports, and maintaining accurate, organized documentation.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with EPS, EPC contractors, project leadership, and technical specialists.
  • Able to work in the field and travel to project sites as project needs require.
  • A clear communicator who follows through on issues and keeps stakeholders informed.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting environmental compliance on utility-scale energy, infrastructure, or other large construction projects.
  • Familiarity with Section 106 coordination and cultural resource monitoring.
  • Experience supporting environmental audits, agency reporting, or self-reporting.
  • Relevant environmental, construction, or safety training and certifications.

Schedule

This position is based in Washington State and requires working onsite 100% of the time at project locations throughout the state, depending on project assignments.

Benefits

  • Hands-on training, mentorship, and clear paths for professional development
  • Generous paid time off (PTO)
  • Health coverage supporting total well-being
  • 401(k) match
  • Paid holidays
  • Weekly team lunches
