About the role
As an Environmental Specialist, you will support the Sr Environmental Specialist with liability management and curtailing the company’s risk and exposure across Murphy USA’s current and divested store operations. This role includes remediation oversight at the company’s terminal operations and collaboration with stakeholders to resolve environmental exposure issues from stores, regulatory agencies, and field management.
Responsibilities
- Perform invoice and expense review, aligning with approved budgets and liability accrual.
- Assist the Sr. Environmental Specialist with concerns from state agency inquiries, inspections, consultant questions, and internal department disciplines.
- Oversee wetland and stormwater management and permitting processes with consultants, RCRA hazardous waste management and disposal, and Sara Title III filings.
- Evaluate waste generation at stores and projects to determine the need for EPA waste generator IDs.
- Review due diligence reports and provide environmental determinations to the real estate department.
- Assist with the environmental emergency response program for fuel spills and releases at stores.
- Support hurricane emergency response efforts as necessary.
- Assist in identifying, preventing, and resolving environmental violations across the business.
- Ensure appropriate record-keeping in Documentum, Titan, and ProjectMates.
- Maintain close partnership with the environmental compliance group to ensure testing and inspections meet requirements and prevent state fund eligibility denials.
- Communicate concisely and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in consultant quality review meetings.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, you must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the necessary knowledge, skill, and ability.
- A four-year college degree is preferred, with knowledge of business management, accounting processes, and computer proficiency.
- Five years of related industry experience is a plus.
