About the Role

The Environmental Compliance Specialist, based in our Columbus, OH plant, ensures the facility complies with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. This role involves developing and implementing environmental programs, overseeing the Industrial Wastewater Program, researching environmental risks, investigating complaints, and developing strategies to control pollution and manage hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of the Industrial Wastewater System, including operation, monitoring, sampling, recordkeeping, maintenance, troubleshooting, and compliance.
• Conduct regular inspections of facilities and processes to identify and correct potential environmental hazards.
• Perform risk assessments to identify and evaluate potential health and environmental hazards, and assess the effectiveness of control mechanisms.
• Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety laws.
• Participate in emergency response planning and disaster recovery efforts.
• Create, implement, and monitor Environmental Health policies and programs.
• Develop and provide training to employees on topics such as emergency response and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain records and prepare reports for regulatory compliance.

Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of Environmental Health work experience in a manufacturing facility is required. A bachelor's degree in a related field (such as Environmental Health) may compensate for some experience.
• Experience operating industrial wastewater pretreatment systems.
• Knowledge of wastewater treatment principles, including pH adjustment, chemical precipitation, and oil separation.
• Ability to conduct basic laboratory testing and interpret results.
• Experience working with and reporting to Federal and State agencies (OSHA, EPA/DEP, etc.), including a solid understanding of their associated regulations and standards.
• Experience with Hazardous Waste Management, including permitting for Air, Stormwater, and Industrial Water Discharge.
• Certifications in Environmental Health & Safety related programs preferred.
• Intermediate computer skills, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
• Exceptional reading comprehension and attention to detail to manage documentation and ensure compliance.
• Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills to address unique environmental challenges.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to grow and accept challenges.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Bilingual (English & Spanish) is highly preferred but not required.
