Key Responsibilities
- Field Monitoring & Inspection
- Carry out environmental compliance inspections on active construction sites.
- Identify and document issues related to stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, wetlands, waterways, and other regulated resources.
- Document compliance concerns involving threatened and endangered species, cultural resources, required buffers, and tree preservation.
- Conduct inspections for additional permit and plan requirements, as applicable to the project.
- Audit compliance with project specific permits, plans, and environmental requirements.
- Maintain oversight of construction activities to ensure impacts to regulated resources comply with permit requirements.
- Verify that restoration methods and seed mixes used on projects for wetlands, agricultural land, and other areas requiring restoration conform to the requirements of the project.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure sensitive areas are not adversely impacted during construction activities.
- Document site conditions through written field notes, photographs, and inspection reports.
- Documentation & Reporting

- Track instances of non-compliance and communicate findings to team leaders, project managers, and construction personnel.
- Prepare routine inspection reports and regulatory documentation as required.
- Assist with preparation of construction specific mitigation plans, depending on project requirements.
- Coordination & Communication
- Communicate environmental requirements to contractors and construction personnel in the field.
- Coordinate with project team members to address field issues and clarify permit or plan requirements.
- Perform day-to-day field coordination and communication under moderate supervision.
- Support and follow all health, safety, and environmental (HSSE) requirements.
- Exercise stop work authority when unsafe or non-compliant conditions are observed.
- Participate in required safety training and adhere to client and site-specific safety protocols.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with natural resources such as wetlands, waterways, rare species, invasive species, and other environmental features.
- Working understanding of construction site environmental controls, including erosion and sediment control BMPs.
- Working knowledge of environmental compliance requirements and the ability to apply established procedures and project-specific requirements in the field.
- Ability to accurately observe, document, and communicate field conditions.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment on routine field issues and recognize when to seek guidance on complex or non-standard compliance situations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, paperless reporting and documentation, use of basic electronic data entry tools.
- Ability to work weekends as needed, as dictated by weather and construction needs.
- Willingness to learn new skills and ask questions while conducting field work.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements associated with utility construction compliance is considered an asset.
- Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience.
- 2+ years of experience in environmental monitoring, construction inspection, stormwater compliance, or related field work.
- Prior experience on construction sites or performing environmental inspections is required.
- Experience working through environmental permitting in multiple markets is an asset.
