Environmental Chemist 2

The Environmental Chemist 2 role with the Department of Environmental Protection supports statewide environmental goals by providing technical expertise within the Land Recycling Program. This position focuses on guidance, regulations, public information, and technical consultation relating to environmental chemistry, contributing to safer land use and cleaner communities.

Responsibilities

• Provide explanations and advice on environmental chemistry issues for regional staff (Technical Guidance).
• Serve as a consultant on technical matters connected to the Land Recycling Program (Consultation Support).
• Assess risk assessments and related work products and offer clear and constructive comments (Document Review).
• Prepare written materials that support public understanding of land recycling activities (Public Information).
• Assist with developing and presenting training seminars for staff and consultants (Training Activities).
• Develop and maintain databases and tracking tools used for program operations (Data Systems).

Requirements

• Two years of experience as an Environmental Chemist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Eight years of professional chemical analytical experience which included analyzing a wide variety of chemicals and interpreting the analysis; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirements.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.

If claiming education to meet minimum requirements, unofficial college transcripts must be attached. Veterans may qualify for employment preference under Pennsylvania law.

Schedule

• Full-time employment, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (30-minute lunch).
• Telework opportunity: Up to 3 days per week from an approved location inside Pennsylvania, with a securely configured high-speed internet connection. Telework is subject to change at any time.
• If unable to telework, reporting to the headquarters office in Harrisburg is required.

Pay
