Responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains and interprets informational databases on several computer programs including PC, KDHE Labs Data LIMS and EPA SDWIS.
  • Database inventory curator for SDWIS/state database; analyzes, plans, organizes and implements data migration from various sources into SDWIS/state and maintains data integrity during the process.
  • Analyzes and interprets data through complex queries in order to respond to data requests from within KDHE and from outside state and federal agencies, public and private agencies, consultants, public water supply facilities and the general public.
  • Creates and customizes data queries to address specific request using statistical and analytical tools.
  • Ensures data quality of both state and federal EPA drinking water databases.
  • Works with PWS Section engineers for data entry for drinking water system permits that are entered on other state and federal databases and implements corrective measures, when needed, to ensure all drinking water information is accurate and consistent.
  • This often includes designing new formats and processes for viewing and retrieving data.
  • Participates in monthly Enforcement meetings.
  • Works closely with Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) Rule managers to assure laboratory testing schedules are updated.
  • Keeps PWS staff informed of all data and structure changes and assists with implementation and training of staff on new versions of SDWIS/state software.
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to other staff members as needed regarding day-to-day computer operation, problems or questions on data entry and retrieval.
  • Promotes the use and benefits of the database by providing support and promotion of information available to agency personnel, public water supply systems, consumer organization and government units.
  • Affords assistance to PWS staff with implementing and utilizing new and existing software.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School, GED
  • Licensing & Certification: Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State
  • Minimum Qualifications: Two years of relevant technical experience in an environmental field and/or program. Education may be substituted by the agency as necessary
  • Preferred Qualifications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Query, SDWIS
  • Proofreading, editing, attention to detail
  • Knowledge of computer language
  • Knowledge of English language usage
  • Good oral and written communication
  • Computer experience entering and querying data in complex relational Oracle and/or SQL Server database
  • Independent experience in working with statistics and analysis of data

Pay

Pay Range: ($20.33 -$22.38)

* Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications.

Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm (Flexible schedules available)
