Environment, Health and Safety Manager

Permanent direct-hire role requiring relocation to the area. Total compensation package ranges from $180K to $230K.

About the role

The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager serves in a leadership role in the implementation, support, and oversight of Company Responsible Care EHS policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and practices at assigned Company facilities. These programs include environmental, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, product safety, Responsible Care, emergency response and planning, loss prevention, process safety, security, and medical programs.

Responsibilities

• Interface with site personnel to identify hazards and develop and implement corrective/improvement measures, including review and approval of work permits, incident investigations, safety audits, design reviews, process safety reviews, project review teams, and job task analysis.
• Coordinate and manage the implementation of Company EHS and Responsible Care policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and practices at assigned facilities, including maintaining site management systems, Incident Management Database, Action Item Database, and EHS Compliance Calendar for routine reporting, audits, and permit renewals.
• Promote proactive safety participation by all employees and ensure injuries, illnesses, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions are reported and investigated.
• Provide leadership to develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs and policies to meet or exceed compliance with national, provincial, and local regulations, internal policies, and customer requirements, including environmental, safety, transportation, security, Responsible Care Codes, and RC 14001 requirements.
• Support the industrial hygiene program through air and noise monitoring, exposure assessments, and report preparation.
• Participate in Quality Assurance and support continual improvement under ISO 9000 and RC14001 processes.
• Provide technical support and guidance, maintain all documentation essential to EHS program operations, monitor interactions with regulatory authorities, insurance carriers, or EHS consultants, and ensure environmental permits and reporting are up to date and adhered to.
• Provide coaching, employee development, performance management, and training for assigned EHS department staff, including direction and performance reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or science, occupational health or safety, industrial hygiene, or another relevant field (preferred but not required).
• Minimum 7 years of related safety management, environmental, and/or supervisory responsibility, preferably in chemical manufacturing or a related environment.
• Advanced knowledge of EHS regulations, management systems, regulatory agencies, trends, and resources.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and extensive internet search capabilities.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to build consensus and influence others.
• Exceptional organization and presentation skills; ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to travel 30-50%, including full-week stays for support visits to manufacturing sites, professional development seminars, training, or other required travel.

Skills

• Professional and/or industry certifications in environmental, safety, or industrial hygiene (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager).
• Training or knowledge of hazardous material response (40 hr. Haz-Mat Technician level) and confined space rescue.
• Experience with implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and ability to conduct Process Hazard Analysis using HAZOP or equivalent methods.
• Knowledge of Responsible Care, Responsible Care Codes, or other EHS Management Systems.
• Familiarity with ANSI, API, NFPA, and other recognized industry standards.
• Knowledge of databases and ability to use them for trending.
• Knowledge of workers' compensation requirements.
• First Aid / CPR Certification.
