Responsibilities
- Serve as the site leader for Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) programs within a 24/7 chemical manufacturing operation.
- Build strong partnerships with operations, maintenance, engineering, quality, and plant leadership to embed HSE into daily manufacturing activities.
- Maintain a visible presence on the manufacturing floor by coaching employees, reinforcing safe work practices, and driving a proactive, behavior-based safety culture.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce operational risk and strengthen overall HSE performance.
- Support OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM), EPA regulatory compliance, Risk Management Program (RMP), and other site HSE initiatives while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Cook up environmental permitting, regulatory reporting, inspections, audits, and compliance activities, serving as a key site resource during internal and external reviews.
- Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), HAZOP reviews, Management of Change (MOC), and other process safety initiatives that improve operational reliability and reduce risk.
- Partner with internal stakeholders and external consultants to strengthen HSE management systems, support RCMS initiatives, and drive continuous improvement across safety and environmental programs.
- Deliver engaging HSE training and provide day-to-day coaching that builds trust, accountability, and a culture where employees actively own workplace safety.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene, or a related technical discipline preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive HSE leadership experience within chemical manufacturing or another OSHA PSM-regulated industrial environment.
- Demonstrated experience supporting OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM), EPA compliance, environmental permitting, regulatory reporting, and audit readiness.
- Working knowledge of process safety methodologies including PHA, HAZOP, MOC, LOPA, or similar risk assessment processes is strongly preferred.
- Experience leading incident investigations, root cause analysis, behavior-based safety initiatives, and continuous improvement programs.
- Familiarity with RCMS, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other environmental or safety management systems is preferred.
- Proven ability to influence all levels of a manufacturing organization through strong communication, coaching, and a visible leadership presence on the plant floor.
