Entry Level, Local Truck Driver

Daily minimum guarantee of $250.00 during training period. Schedule is Monday-Friday with an occasional Saturday. Start and end times vary; drivers average 10-12 hour days. CDL A is required.

About the Role

This is an entry-level driver training role. The driver is responsible for learning to drive a tractor-trailer or straight truck intrastate and/or interstate on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and/or overnight routes to deliver and unload various food and food-related products to customers. All routes must be completed safely in accordance with Company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The Driver Trainee communicates professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers to ensure services are executed according to preferred work methods and customer service practices.

Responsibilities

• Attends and successfully completes PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program as required.
• Rides with and assists driver trainer in executing deliveries.
• Performs all required safety checks (pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations and company safety standards.
• Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required.
• Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies.
• Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight; performs count checks of items and verifies customer invoices.
• Completes all required paperwork accurately and legibly.
• Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule.
• Unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas.
• Performs damage control checks, scans items, and contacts supervisor about removing orders as per company policy.
• Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures; collects money (cash or checks) where required.
• Loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors.
• Ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times.
• Unloads damaged goods and customer returns, completes necessary paperwork.
• Completes daily record of hours of service and enters logs in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
• Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keeps trailers clean.
• Secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork at the end of the shift.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• Internal PFG Candidates: 1 year of service in good standing, able to attain CDL Permit and DOT Health Card.
• External Entry Level Hire: 0-6 months experience with a CDL A.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).
• Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years.
• Pass post-offer drug test and road test.
• Able to hand-lift and utilize equipment (e.g., two-wheeler, lift gate) to move product cases/freight of varying size and weight (60–90 pounds).

Pay

$250.00 a day during training period.
