About the role

The Staff Geotechnical Engineer / EIT position supports the geotechnical engineering team at Kleinfelder, a company known for its commitment to excellence and growth. Our team works on a variety of projects including transportation, municipal, utility, power/energy, and commercial development, ensuring the safety and efficiency of our clients' infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Support field investigations, engineering analyses, and report preparation for various projects.
  • Assist with shallow and deep foundation design, pavement design, settlement, and slope stability evaluations.
  • Work with drilling subcontractors and laboratory staff to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Observe and troubleshoot geotechnical issues during construction phases.
  • Prepare boring logs and classify soil and rock samples.
  • Conduct engineering analyses and calculations as needed.
  • Write and review geotechnical reports.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on geotechnical engineering.
  • An EIT license, or the ability to obtain one within six months.
  • One to four years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience.
  • A positive work attitude and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with peers, supervisors, clients, subcontractors, and regulators.
  • A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred Skills / Experience

  • Experience with geotechnical field investigations.
  • Experience preparing boring logs and classifying soil and rock samples.
  • Experience assisting with shallow/deep foundation design, pavement design, settlement, and slope stability evaluations.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical software such as gINT, BoreDM, LPile, SHAFT, Settle3, SLIDE, or similar programs.
  • Experience with TxDOT, municipal, utility, transportation, energy, or commercial development projects.
  • A Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical emphasis.

Schedule

The position requires up to 70% travel during the first year to year and a half.

Pay

Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
