About the role
A Field Service Technician diagnoses and resolves technical issues with a variety of phone systems, network, and data equipment. The role involves performing services ranging from basic repairs to full installations with minimal supervision, ensuring customer equipment is configured, programmed, or repaired to meet their needs.
This position requires daily travel, with occasional overnight travel. Availability for on-call duties after normal business hours and the ability to perform service, installation, and maintenance work during nighttime hours is expected.
Responsibilities
- Perform installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting on Key and PABX phone systems.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Voicemail and Call Center products.
- Test, troubleshoot, cut over, and turn up phone lines, PRI’s, voice and data T-1’s, trunks, and integrated circuits.
- Troubleshoot telephone system hardware/software, voicemail, and telephone set and feature issues on-site and remotely.
- Install cables and perform testing.
- Study equipment requirements, research documentation, order and gather components and parts, complete installations, and perform acceptance tests.
- Maintain customer rapport by discussing issues, providing technical support, identifying solutions, suggesting improved methods, and recommending system improvements.
- Support other departments by providing corrective actions to Trouble Tickets and assisting the Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as required.
- At customer premises, identify demarc, pretest and install IAD, and perform loop testing.
- Assist remote centers with hosted IP-PBX/managed services test and turn-up to customer premises.
- Protect confidential information and participate in vehicle and office safety programs.
- Maintain all company equipment to ensure operational readiness at all times.
- Adhere to scheduled order completion and maintenance timeframes.
Requirements
- Good communication and technical skills to effectively diagnose and solve problems.
- Familiarity with a variety of phone systems, network, and data equipment.
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Strong customer service and project management skills.
- Good computer and organizational skills.
- Participation in on-the-job training programs and maintaining working knowledge of all equipment.
- Hand and finger dexterity, good eyesight, and the ability to determine colors.
- IT background is a plus.
