About the Role

Whiting-Turner is a national ENR Top 25 General Contractor looking for entry-level engineers to help manage all aspects of construction projects. Reporting to a project manager and/or a superintendent, the entry-level engineer will coordinate work and support construction operations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate work with project owner representatives, architects, engineers, inspectors, and site subcontractors; direct the work of all trades assigned to a construction work site.
  • Manage estimating and bidding processes and track costs to maintain the project budget.
  • Resolve and clarify design issues and field issues; handle change orders.
  • Write contracts and purchase orders using company boilerplate language to document ordered work, schedules, projected costs, change orders, and technical specifications.
  • Participate in meetings to coordinate work and manage labor concerns.
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with quality standards and contract specifications.
  • Implement project schedules, including each task associated with project completion.
  • Document the technical, financial, and personnel aspects of each project.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, submittals, and change orders.
  • Review each trade’s work progress with respect to each project phase.
  • Provide field support to construction superintendents to ensure contract compliance, quality control, and site maintenance.
  • Track project phase completion against milestones.
  • Set expectations for managing a safe work site.
  • Document each phase of the project.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or Construction Technology.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Skills Developed Through Training

  • General knowledge of safety regulations, ANSI standards, local and state building codes, environmental codes, and industry-specific guidelines.
  • General knowledge of construction processes, practices, and work sites.
  • Experience with construction projects, mechanical/electrical systems, building materials, building mechanics, or working with craft workers.
  • Ability to read and understand technical specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, product/material installation instructions, and engineering/architectural drawings.
  • Proficiency in scheduling, including related scheduling software.
