Entry-level Engineer

About the role

As an entry-level engineer, you will provide engineering and design support to the Mid-Atlantic team within our existing solid waste practice. This role focuses on delivering engineering and environmental services to private and municipal clients in the landfill, landfill gas, air permitting, and solid waste management industries. You’ll receive hands-on training and mentorship while gaining valuable experience in both the field and the office.

You will be based out of our Charlotte, NC office with occasional travel for fieldwork.

Responsibilities

• Support new and existing solid waste project assignments, including studies, designs, calculations, permitting, drawings, reports, and data analytics.
• Support air quality permitting and compliance reporting for industrial facilities by preparing air permit applications, developing pollutant emissions calculations, preparing certification reports, and assisting clients in developing and implementing air quality strategies and protocols (e.g., evaluating and designing emission control systems).
• Support engineering and construction quality assurance (CQA) projects related to landfill gas, landfill engineering, industrial wastewater treatment, stormwater management, renewable energy, groundwater remediation, infrastructure, and other environmental projects, both in the field (requiring travel) and in the office.
• Provide computer-aided design and drafting support, as well as innovative technology platform support, for various solid waste and environmental services projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Leapfrog Works, ArcGIS, SCS E-Tools, and related programs.
• Support core competency practice areas within the Solid Waste and Environmental Services Divisions, as well as Strategic Initiative practice areas, including liquids management, wastewater treatment, organics management, alternative energy (solar and biogas), GHG and sustainability, and deep well injection and carbon sequestration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in civil, environmental, biosystems, or geotechnical engineering required.
• 3 months of relevant solid waste, environmental, and/or engineering internship, work, and/or research experience required.
• Basic AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D knowledge is preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License with a driving record in good standing required.

Pay

USD $65,000.00 - USD $70,000.00 per year.
