About the role

This role combines Quality Control Inspector and Project Engineer responsibilities to support structural steel construction on a large-scale hyperscale data center project in central Indiana. You will help interpret drawings, manage quality documentation, track and resolve issues, coordinate between field and office teams, and support project reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field quality inspections and verify that structural steel and related work are installed in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Track, document, and help resolve construction quality issues and deficiencies from identification through closure.
  • Maintain accurate and organized quality records, including inspection reports, photographs, logs, and other project documentation.
  • Absorb and assist with the preparation and tracking of RFIs, submittals, material tracking logs, drawing updates, and project correspondence.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project requirements to support field execution.
  • Track punch list items and corrective actions, ensuring completion and proper documentation.
  • Cover daily with Project Managers, Superintendents, field crews, inspectors, and third-party testing agencies to support ongoing work.
  • Serve as a liaison between field personnel and project management teams, ensuring clear communication and timely information flow.
  • Support field teams with construction technology platforms, document control systems, and project software tools.
  • Participate in quality meetings, field walks, coordination meetings, and project planning activities.
  • Monitor project issues proactively and communicate potential problems before they impact construction progress.
  • Support daily and weekly reporting requirements for the project team, including progress, quality, and issue tracking updates.
  • Ensure project quality standards are consistently met throughout structural steel erection and related activities.
  • Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with day-to-day project coordination and problem resolution.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Basic construction experience or construction-related education.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Experience with data tracking, recordkeeping, or project documentation.
  • Ability to learn construction software and technology platforms quickly.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and documentation streams.
  • Problem-solving mindset with solid critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with field personnel, project stakeholders, inspectors, and contractors.
  • Comfort asking questions and learning on the job in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently after training while staying aligned with project goals.
  • Ability to track issues through resolution and follow up consistently.
  • Willingness to work in an active construction environment and around ongoing construction operations.
  • Comfort spending significant time outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
  • Ability and willingness to work an anticipated schedule of approximately 58–60 hours per week.
  • Residence in or near central Indiana, with the ability to commute to the project site without per diem.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field (preferred).
  • 0–3 years of construction experience, with recent graduates encouraged to apply.
  • Structural steel construction experience.
  • Quality Control (QC/QA) experience on construction projects.
  • Project Engineer or Field Engineer experience.
  • Experience with Bluebeam for drawing review and markups.
  • Experience with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar construction management and document control platforms.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings and specifications in detail.
  • Exposure to RFIs, submittals, material tracking, punch lists, inspections, and project closeout documentation.
  • Experience supporting inspections, issue tracking, and project coordination activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt to new processes, technologies, and project requirements.
  • Motivation to grow into increasing responsibility beyond administrative project support tasks.
