Entry Level Civil Design Engineer in Training
About the role
As a Civil Designer I, you will work under the close guidance of licensed engineers and senior designers while you build the technical foundation for a long-term career at Thomas & Hutton. You'll pair classroom knowledge with hands-on project experience, developing your CADD and Civil 3D skills on real land-development projects from day one.
Responsibilities
- Perform specific, well-defined portions of a broader assignment under the close supervision of an experienced engineer or designer
- Build proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and related engineering software through mentored, project-based work
- Complete drafting tasks for assigned projects, coordinating with CADD and engineering technicians as needed
- Assist in preparing construction plans, specifications, reports, studies, cost estimates, and permit applications using company and industry standards
- Perform basic computations and analyses, and gather or organize project data and documentation
- Observe construction activities in the field to connect design work with real-world execution
- Receive close, hands-on mentoring from a licensed civil engineer on all aspects of assigned work
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET/EAC-accredited program
- EIT/EI certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Basic working knowledge of AutoCAD; exposure to Civil 3D preferred
- Basic written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while following prescribed methods
- Strong attention to detail and a genuine drive to learn from experienced mentors

On-site: Monday–Thursday 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.; Friday 7:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m.
