Entry-level driver training role focused on learning to drive a tractor trailer or straight truck for intrastate and/or interstate deliveries. Trainees gain experience on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes delivering and unloading food and related products.
Responsibilities
- Attend and complete PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program; maintain all required training documentation.
- Ride with and assist driver trainer in executing deliveries, following all instructions and directions provided.
- Perform pre/post-trip safety checks and inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations and company safety standards; report safety issues or needed repairs.
- Follow all DOT regulations, company safe driving guidelines, and report safety hazards immediately.
- Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight; verify count and customer invoices of loaded products.
- Complete all required paperwork accurately and legibly.
- Drive to customer locations and deliver orders according to predetermined route schedules; unload products and transport items to designated storage areas.
- Perform damage control checks, scan items, and contact supervisor about order removal as per company policy.
- Verify deliveries with customers, obtain signatures, and collect payments (cash or checks) where required.
- Load customer returns onto trailer, secure trailer doors, and ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are locked/secured at all times.
- Unload damaged goods and customer returns; complete necessary paperwork and bring items to driver check-in.
- Unload equipment/materials and remove trash from trailers; maintain cleanliness of tractor, loading dock, and trailers.
- Complete daily hours-of-service records and logs in accordance with federal, state, and company requirements.
- Perform general housekeeping duties; secure all equipment and complete end-of-shift paperwork.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Internal PFG candidates: 1 year of service in good standing, ability to attain CDL Permit and DOT Health Card.
- 0-6 months commercial driving experience.
- Valid CDL A.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
- Pass post-offer drug test and road test.
- Attain or maintain a valid current DOT Health Card.
- Able to hand-lift and use equipment (e.g., two-wheeler, lift gate) to move/stack product cases/freight weighing 60–90 pounds throughout shift.
