About the role

We are seeking a talented and experienced Software Engineer to join our team. As a Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and implement complex software capabilities for computer-based systems, working closely with other engineers to create solutions that meet client needs. This role offers the opportunity to work with modern tools and technologies in a dynamic, collaborative environment committed to delivering high-quality software.

This position allows for partial telework and operates in a fast-paced, small business environment. A current U.S. Government Security clearance is not required on day one but will be processed; U.S. citizenship is required. Candidates with current Secret or TS level clearance are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement complex software capabilities for computer-based systems.
  • Collaborate with a team of engineers to create software solutions that meet client needs.
  • Integrate advanced AI agents (e.g., Claude Code, Google's Antigravity/Gemini) into daily software engineering workflows.
  • Use autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementations, complex codebase refactoring, and automated generation of unit/integration tests.
  • Guide AI agents through complex, multi-repository application architectures, managing context and auditing generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in software development.
  • Work in a hybrid environment, spending an average of 1-2 days per week at our Columbia, MD office.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Five plus (5+) years of software engineering experience.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience developing Java-based software capabilities, including modern frameworks and libraries (e.g., Spring, Guava).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or three (3) years of relevant experience with a Master’s in a related field; or a High School Diploma or equivalent with nine (9) years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship (required for security clearance processing).

Skills

Required Skills

  • Experience designing enterprise APIs and RESTful web services.
  • Experience with Microservices architecture and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) paradigms.
  • Experience with the Agile software lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly and work well both independently and in a team setting.
  • Experience with the Linux operating system.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Git, Nexus, Maven).
  • Inquisitive nature, responsiveness, and excellent testing skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines.

Desired Skills

  • Current U.S. Government clearance (Secret or TS level preferred).
  • Experience with cloud-based technologies (AWS, Azure).
  • Experience with NiFi, Kafka, AWS Infrastructure, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with distributed databases, NoSQL databases, and full-text search engines (e.g., Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Solr).
  • Scripting experience (e.g., Python, relevant frameworks like Flask).
  • Experience with web UI development and frameworks (e.g., Vue).
  • Experience building Docker images and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Prior experience or familiarity with Big Data Platform (BDP)/JCRS-D, Data Lake/Warehouse.
  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies and tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, GitHub Enterprise).

Pay

The expected salary range for this position is $150,000 - $275,000, depending on education and years of experience.
