About the role

The Infrastructure and Operations division in the Information Technology Department (ITD) of the City of San Jose is seeking motivated engineering-level candidates. This division designs and engineers solutions that address and meet the City’s strategies built around Smart City initiatives, including Digital Inclusion and Digital Equity, Public Wi-Fi expansion for economic development, Endpoint Modernization and virtualization, Multi-cloud frameworks, and digital analytics to support data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer solutions for citywide wired and wireless network infrastructure, core server infrastructure, Hyperconverged infrastructure, modern endpoint services, public and private cloud infrastructure, and Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS).
  • Participate in Smart City initiatives, focusing on Digital Inclusion and Digital Equity, Public Wi-Fi expansion for economic development, Endpoint Modernization and virtualization, Multi-cloud frameworks, and digital analytics.
  • Maximize potential by learning new technologies, designing, and implementing solutions.

Requirements

  • Experience with network infrastructure design and engineering.
  • Knowledge of Hyperconverged infrastructure and cloud technologies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in IT infrastructure design and engineering.

Skills

  • Proficiency in network protocols and standards.
  • Experience with cloud service providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
