This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum.

Role Overview

The Facility Security Officer (FSO) is responsible for providing enterprise-level oversight and stewardship of the facility security program for multiple cleared, possessing locations operating under Facility Security Clearances (FCLs). The FSO serves as the primary authority and point of contact for all matters related to classified information safeguarding, compliance with 32 CFR Part 117 (the NISPOM Rule), and strategic engagement with the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) and other Government Security Representatives.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the appointed Facility Security Officer for multiple cleared facilities, ensuring compliance with 32 CFR Part 117 requirements and GM Global Security facility security standards.
  • Oversee and further enhance a comprehensive security program in continued compliance with 32 CFR Part 117 and applicable government contract requirements.
  • Provide enterprise-level subject matter oversight of physical, information, personnel and industrial security controls at each possessing site.
  • Act as the primary liaison with DCSA, government program security officers, and other cognizant security authorities, including leading preparation, execution, and remediation of DCSA Security Reviews, self-inspections, and internal audits across all cleared locations.
  • Own facility security performance metrics and reporting, providing data-driven insights to support risk mitigation and executive decision-making.
  • Lead the end-to-end incident management process, ensuring timely reporting, coordinated investigations, and completion of after-action reviews and remediation.
  • Own safeguarding requirements for classified information, ensuring effective control, storage, transmission, destruction, and accountability of classified materials.
  • Oversee personnel security processes, including clearance verification, access determinations, indoctrination and debriefing, and compliance with personnel vetting requirements.
  • Own access controls for classified, restricted, and controlled areas, including visitor management processes and intrusion detection and alarm systems.
  • Ensure proper implementation and maintenance of security documentation, including Department of Defense Contract Security Classification Specification (DD Form 254), Standard Practice Procedures (SPPs), security Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and accreditation records.
  • Lead change management for classified facility security, translating new requirements into practice, modernizing legacy approaches, and driving sustained adoption of compliant tools and processes.
  • Deliver strategic and role-based security education and training programs to cleared employees, leadership, and other populations.
  • Mentor and coach Assistant Facility Security Officers (AFSOs), program teams, and other stakeholders in understanding 32 CFR Part 117 requirements, interpreting DD254s, applying GM Behaviors, and elevating security-informed decision-making across the organization.
  • Coordinate insider threat awareness activities and integrate counterintelligence considerations into facility security operations, in collaboration with enterprise stakeholders.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance security, strengthen compliance, and reduce risk across assigned sites.
  • Partner with the GM Security Technology team to identify and prioritize security system upgrades aligned to lifecycle management, risk reduction, and efficiency.
  • Conduct site security vulnerability and compliance assessments aligned with GM Global Security requirements and provide risk-based insights to leadership.

    Required Qualifications

    • 7+ years of demonstrated experience serving as a Facility Security Officer in a cleared defense or industrial environment, with responsibility for multiple facilities preferred.
    • Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
    • Possessing Facility Experience — Prior experience serving as an FSO or security staff member at a possessing cleared facility (i.e., one authorized to store classified material).
    • DCSA Assessment Performance — Demonstrated history of achieving a “Superior” rating during a DCSA Security Vulnerability Assessment.
    • In-depth knowledge of 32 CFR Part 117 and its application to enterprise-scale cleared operations, including multiple possessing facilities and FCLs.
    • Strong leadership skills, regulatory expertise, and the ability to oversee consistent, compliant security operations supporting classified contracts.
    • Proven ability to work in a complex, matrixed organization and influence decisions across teams and leadership levels without direct reporting relationships.
    • Established professional credibility and relationships within the private sector, NCMS, and DCSA, and among government customers.
    • Proven ability to manage and standardize security programs across multiple locations with differing risk profiles and operational needs.
    • Strong working knowledge of DCSA processes, inspections, reporting requirements, and security systems (e.g., FCL management, personnel clearance oversight, DISS, NISS, NBIS).
    • Experience supporting classified government contracts and interpreting DD Form 254 requirements.
    • Excellent communication, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with government representatives.
    • Experience briefing senior executive or C-suite audiences.
    • Consistent demonstration of organizational discipline, attention to detail, and sound judgment in safeguarding classified information.
    • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and innovation in complex, highly regulated environments, including modernizing security policies, methods, and systems.
    • Experience in related government roles preferred.
    • U.S. citizenship and an active Secret level U.S. security clearance required; top secret clearance preferred.

    • This role is categorized as hybrid. The selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.
    • This job is not eligible for relocation benefits.
