This hybrid role requires periodic onsite presence (approximately two days every three weeks or as business needs dictate) in Newark, NJ.
About the Role
The Enterprise Architect plays a strategic role in shaping the future of a healthcare payer organization undergoing a major digital-first, AI-enabled transformation. This position partners with senior business and technology leaders to define domain strategies, assess capability maturity, and build multi-year roadmaps that guide enterprise modernization. The role focuses on conceptual architecture, governance, and strategic alignment rather than hands-on solutioning, making it ideal for seasoned architects who excel at influencing direction across complex organizations.
Responsibilities
- Drive Digital-First, AI-Enabled Strategy
- Lead domain-level strategy development that supports digital-first, AI-enabled business models across the enterprise.
- Shape 24-36 month roadmaps that integrate AI, automation, and modern digital capabilities into core business processes.
- Identify capability gaps, maturity needs, and prerequisite investments required to achieve target-state outcomes.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to inform strategic recommendations for payer and clinical domains.
- Enterprise Architecture Leadership
- Develop and maintain target-state architecture, reference architectures, and conceptual patterns for assigned domains.
- Conduct current-state assessments and identify modernization opportunities across business and technology landscapes.
- Ensure initiatives align with enterprise architecture principles, standards, and long-term business goals.
- Produce conceptual-level deliverables such as strategy decks, reference patterns, and standards documentation.
- Support the selection and implementation of tools and processes that enable effective enterprise architecture services.
- Domain Strategy (Business-Angle and Tech-Angle)
- Lead domain strategy efforts for areas such as IVR, call center modernization, digital engagement, and operational transformation.
- Partner with business leaders to translate use cases, capability needs, and strategic priorities into actionable architecture direction.
- Partner with technology leaders to ensure domain strategies align with platform, data, cloud, and integration roadmaps.
- Governance and Standards
- Contribute to enterprise architecture governance, including Architecture Review Board activities and technology lifecycle oversight.
- Develop and maintain technology standards, manage exceptions, and guide obsolescence risk management.
- Promote architectural consistency and alignment across business and technology teams.
- Vendor and Stakeholder Engagement
- Stay current on vendor capabilities and roadmaps relevant to assigned domains.
- Support RFP/RFQ development, vendor evaluations, and contract renewals.
- Present architectural recommendations and roadmaps to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Leadership and Influence
- Champion the value of enterprise architecture across the organization.
- Mentor architects and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and strategic thinking.
- Influence decision-making across business and technology teams without requiring hands-on solutioning.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years in enterprise architecture, strategy, or governance roles.
- Proven experience defining and implementing target-state architectures and technology roadmaps.
- Strong understanding of EA frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman) and architecture modeling tools.
- Strong experience developing PowerPoint presentations for various leadership levels, especially VP and C-level.
- Healthcare payer experience is required; clinical data experience is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience as a Solution Architect is a strong plus, though this role is not hands-on.
Skills
- Technical Depth
- Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and modern architecture patterns.
- Expertise in microservices, container platforms, APIs, data engineering, data lakes, cloud data warehousing, and automation technologies.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts, Agile, and DevOps practices.

- Ability to influence senior leaders and guide strategic decision-making.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts for diverse audiences.

Qualifications
- TOGAF, PMP, or Cloud Architecture certifications preferred.
