Enterprise Architect (Lead Data Integration & Streaming Architect)

About the Role

This horizontal role defines and governs technology strategy that supports multiple business units and domains across the organization. It acts as the critical link between business strategy and technology execution for the entire portfolio, operating with broad autonomy and complexity under the guidance of senior team members. The role influences executive decisions, shapes strategic roadmaps, and leads initiatives that span platforms and technologies.

Designs and develops IT architecture strategy, standards, and roadmap while creating enterprise architecture delivery (integrated process, applications, data, and technology) in alignment with the enterprise architecture vision and direction.

Responsibilities

• Create strategy, vision, roadmap, reference architecture, and patterns for business/technical capabilities.
• Develop data architecture guidelines and gain alignment on solutions using data-driven influence.
• Design scalable, decoupled systems with a strong understanding of security in distributed systems.
• Build data assets on platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks.
• Implement event-driven architecture (EDA), microservices, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
• Work with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) and data streaming technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka/Flink, AWS Kinesis).
• Design and manage APIs (REST, GraphQL) and message brokers (e.g., IBM MQ, RabbitMQ, AWS SNS/SQS).
• Apply reactive systems and programming methods (e.g., Spring WebFlux, Akka).
• Understand event mesh, pub/sub architectures, event sourcing, CQRS, and CDC pipelines.
• Automate business processes using AI and build data products for functional domains (e.g., Policy, Quote, Claims in Insurance).
• Lead enterprise-wide architectural initiatives that deliver measurable business outcomes (e.g., cost savings, improved agility, reduced risk).
• Influence senior executive leaders on enterprise-level technology strategy.

Requirements

• Minimum ten years of experience across architecture disciplines with significant enterprise architecture leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of data mesh architecture and data product design (e.g., decentralized data ownership, clear data contracts).
• Expertise in event-driven architecture (EDA) principles and patterns.
• Proficiency in cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, ELK stack).
• Strong functional knowledge of insurance domains (e.g., underwriting, claims processing, services operations) and compliance regulations (PLUS).
• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s or master’s degree preferred.
• Architect or senior-level industry certifications required upon hire; second certification required within 12 months. TOGAF certification preferred.

Workplace

Hybrid work environment combining in-office and virtual work. Employees within 50 miles of a Farmers corporate office work at least three days in-office and up to two days virtually. Applicants beyond 50 miles may still be considered.

Job is performed in-person at a Farmers office or virtually at an approved alternative work location. The physical work environment is indoors, climate-controlled, and includes normal office distractions (e.g., background noise, interruptions).
