Enterprise Architect
ezCater is the #1 food tech platform for workplaces in the US, making it easy for organizations to manage food needs and order from over 125,000 restaurants nationwide. The company is re-platforming its marketplace on Nova, a composable platform built from domain capabilities, while the existing business continues to grow. The architectural decisions made over the next two years will shape the company for the next decade.
About the role
The Enterprise Architect is the most senior individual contributor in technology, sitting above Principal on the career ladder and reporting directly to the Chief Product and Technology Officer. This role carries real decision authority: you chair the Architecture Board, own the architecture decision process, and hold standing authority over the most consequential workstreams.
Responsibilities
- Chair the Architecture Board and own its decision register, ensuring every open architecture decision has an owner, a date, and is treated as a program risk if past due.
- Run the Architecture Decision Record (ADR) gate that workstreams pass through before build.
- Hold standing architecture authority over foundational platform programs spanning data, identity, events, and core services.
- Set the target-state architecture connecting the legacy platform, the new platform, and the migration path between them.
- Pressure-test designs with senior engineers across the organization, raise the quality of technical decision-making, and represent architecture directly to executive leadership.
Requirements
- 15+ years in software engineering with experience as the accountable architect for a platform transformation or re-platforming at scale, ideally in marketplace, commerce, or transactional systems.
- Proven track record of making and defending consequential decisions on event-driven architecture, service decomposition, data and identity modeling, and build-versus-buy.
- Ability to reflect on past decisions, including those that didn’t work, and articulate lessons learned.
- Clear and effective written communication, producing Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), RFCs, and assessments that teams align around.
- Hands-on technical credibility to read designs or code diffs and earn the respect of Principal engineers.
- Seniority to say no to a VP with a deadline and operate through influence and decision rights rather than headcount.
- Experience establishing architecture authority in an organization where it was not previously inherited.
Benefits
- Market competitive salary and stock options.
- 12 paid holidays and flexible PTO.
- 401K with ezCater match.
- Health, dental, and FSA benefits.
- Long-term disability insurance.
- Mental health and family planning resources.
- Remote-hybrid work flexibility from the Boston office, home, or a mix of both.
- Employee meal program and other office perks.
- Autonomy, responsibility, and impactful work with a high-performing team.
