Responsibilities

  • Metric Ownership: Lead your pod to meet or exceed key performance indicators (KPIs), with a specific focus on realization rates and billable-hour targets.
  • Mentorship & Training: Provide consistent, hands-on coaching to associates; conduct regular file reviews and provide documented feedback to elevate the team’s technical skills.
  • Workflow Oversight: Manage the team’s case capacity, ensuring deadlines are met and resources are allocated efficiently across the pod’s portfolio.
  • Performance Reviews: Participate in the hiring, onboarding, and performance management of your direct reports.
  • Case Strategy & Technical Execution
    • Responsible Officer: Serve as the lead strategist on a portfolio of complex federal and state tax controversy matters, including high-stakes audits, appeals, collections, and offshore compliance.
    • Quality Control: Review and sign off on major filings, protests, and settlement proposals drafted by your team to ensure technical accuracy and strategic alignment.
    • High-Stakes Negotiation: Lead complex negotiations with the IRS and state revenue agencies for the firm’s most sensitive or high-value cases.
    • Litigation Support: Partner with senior leadership to manage procedural strategy and administrative components of Tax Court cases.
    • Client Liaison: As the primary client liaison for your pod, you will serve as the trusted point of contact for the clients your team serves, building strong relationships, ensuring service expectations are consistently met, and stepping in to resolve concerns with the responsiveness and professionalism clients expect.

Qualifications

  • Credentials: A current Enrolled Agent (EA) certification in good standing.
  • Experience: 5+ years of dedicated experience in tax controversy (IRS and/or State levels).
  • Management Track Record: Proven experience leading a team, managing direct reports, or overseeing the production of other professionals.
  • Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of IRS collections (OICs, IAs, CNC), audits, appeals, and penalty abatement procedures.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex tax law into an actionable strategy for both clients and junior staff.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with legal practice management software (e.g., Clio), Adobe, and the MS Office Suite.

Pay

$150,000 - $225,000/year
