Responsibilities

  • Analyzes the Company’s Western Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) daily dispatch decisions, including evaluating plant performance, demand forecasts, and market imbalances, and communicates findings to management.
  • Collects, analyzes and interprets market and operational data to create reports, prepare presentations, and wholesale power market commentaries.
  • Performs forecast to actual variance analysis and reports results to EIM personnel.
  • Develops load and renewable generation forecasts for TEP, UNS Electric, and UNS Gas.
  • Maintains and updates generation values, pricing and corporate data required in the planning and forecasting process.
  • Performs variance analysis to validate forecast and explain deviations to management.
  • Maintains an active role in EIM activities, boards, committees, and groups, including the Regional Issues Forum and other stakeholder meetings.
  • Stays up-to-date on WECC, NERC and FERC compliance requirements. Supports department during internal and external audits.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, economics, business administration or comparable quantitative field.
  • Two years of experience in wholesale power marketing or relevant utility industry experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask effectively and to work in an environment with ambiguity.
  • Must have knowledge of wind & solar renewable generation.
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze meteorological data.
  • Strong data analysis, benchmarking, monitoring and business/financial analysis skills required.
  • Must have knowledge of utility scale generation and transmission systems.
  • Must have an advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel Word and PowerPoint.

Preferred

  • Prior experience with the Western EIM, CASIO Market or other wholesale power markets preferred.
  • Knowledge of varied analytical methods preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and ability to identify solutions.
  • Strong communication and writing skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex technical materials and concepts.
  • Ability to provide practical and feasible solutions to problems while taking multiple conflicting considerations into account.

Senior Energy Market and Forecast Analyst

  • Minimum qualifications for Analyst plus:
  • Superior analytical, relationship management, facilitation, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop management style reporting and presentations (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of management and workforce.
  • Project management skills including ability to multitask, prioritize, set and meet deadlines, work independently, and perform tasks with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates deep understanding of at least a few business areas and technology used in those areas.
  • Successfully engages in multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Preferred

  • 5 years of utility experience in a related business area.

Lead Energy Market and Forecast Analyst

  • Demonstrated strong project management capabilities, including the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, with emphasis on accuracy and attention to details.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain project budget and stay within budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to recommend innovative solutions to support complex business requirements.
  • Has the ability to lead large business process initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Provides mentoring and support to other analysts on the team.
  • Highly proficient at understanding the needs of clients from a business perspective.
  • Can look at business areas from a strategic perspective and recommend forward-thinking solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership and innovative skills.

Preferred

  • 8-10 years of utility experience in a related business area.
