About the Role
The Enologist will report to the Senior Winemaker and work closely with the Winemaking team to maintain wine quality and processing flow at a bulk wine facility. This role involves supporting various production teams, ensuring cost-effectiveness, accuracy, and safety in all operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist Winemaking in meeting target sensory and analytical quality requirements for wines.
- Direct lab analysis based on wine needs and perform analysis when necessary.
- Participate in short and long-term planning for finishing/blending wines shipped from other TWG facilities.
- Assist in creating and approving process orders.
- Conduct blending/fining trials and other experiments as directed.
- Taste wines at various stages of the winemaking process and participate in customer tastings.
- Verify and maintain overall wine quality through different winemaking practices.
- Coordinate wines for shipment, ensuring they meet customer specifications.
- Work with the operations team on forecasting and ordering wine additives.
- Participate in the development of new blends and restructuring of existing ones.
- Cover Winemaker duties in their absence.
- Stay current with changes in winemaking procedures and techniques through training.
- Actively participate in safety policies and procedures, including audits and incident investigations.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 or older at the time of hire.
- BS/BA in Enology/Viticulture, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Microbiology, or equivalent education/work experience.
- Minimum 2 years of winery-related experience.
- Passion for wine quality with an understanding of associated processing costs.
- Well-developed organoleptic skills.
- Good understanding of lab and wine processing equipment.
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Strong time management and priority-setting skills.
- Self-starter with excellent communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Flexibility in work hours and ability to work as a team player.
Physical Demands
- Ability to work at heights up to 45 feet.
- Work in a fast-paced environment under pressure.
- Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments with related equipment and noise levels.
- Perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, and twisting.
Pay
Hiring Salary Range: $70,304 - $81,200. Actual compensation will be based on factors such as experience, skills, knowledge, education, and other position-related factors.
