About the role
The English Teacher position is responsible for developing students' skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, fostering an appreciation for literature, and motivating students to engage with a wide range of texts.
Responsibilities
- Teach English language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism to secondary students.
- Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter as outlined by state law and school district policies.
- Select and requisition books and instructional aids appropriate to students' interests and maturity levels.
- Develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions based on various media and literature.
- Evaluate student progress in English skills and encourage independent thinking and expression.
- Maintain an orderly classroom environment and assist students with health, attitude, and learning issues.
- Communicate with parents and school counselors regarding student progress.
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities and participate in school publications and events.
- Participate in curriculum development and faculty committees.
- Administer or monitor group tests and evaluate performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in English or related field.
- Pennsylvania Instructional Teaching Certificate.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other educators and support staff.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to teach a variety of subjects and adapt lessons to different learning styles.
- Knowledge of current pedagogical techniques and best practices.
- Ability to manage a classroom effectively and maintain discipline.
- Proficiency in using technology for lesson planning and assessment.
