Qualifications

Current Minnesota teaching license in one of the following:

  • English for grades 5-12, 7-12, or 9-12
  • Communication Arts & Literature for grades 5-12, 7-12, or 9-12

  • Mathematical concepts, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, and statistics

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and collaborate with professional staff to determine and coordinate standardized curriculum and assessment designs, including:
    • Designing and assessing student learning K-12
    • Creating scope and sequence for K-12 curriculum
    • Coordinating within a department
  • Create, formulate, develop, and implement instructional objectives and activities
  • Conduct classroom instruction, individual tutoring, or counseling based on lesson plans and student needs, including:
    • Assessing student performance to determine need for re-instruction or alternative methods
    • Grading student work
    • Creating a supportive learning environment using reinforcing techniques
    • Prioritizing tasks for efficient use of time
    • Identifying and mitigating potentially harmful situations
    • Providing time for students to relearn material
  • Evaluate student abilities and health status to adapt responses and assist with educational, career, or personal planning
  • Diagnose, summarize, and interpret student strengths, weaknesses, and problems for reports to parents and school personnel
  • Respond to student needs, including:
    • Providing information and guidance on educational and career options
    • Addressing personal or health concerns, or referring students to other professionals
    • Serving as a student advocate by presenting concerns to parents, staff, administration, or the public
    • Acting as a liaison between the district and community agencies serving youth
  • Build credibility with staff, students, parents, and the community by:
    • Relating to people from diverse social, economic, racial, religious, or educational backgrounds
    • Demonstrating professional competency through content and teaching methods
  • Assess, plan, and initiate public relations activities to improve community communication and perceptions
  • Participate in in-service training and develop or implement training for other staff
