Job Summary

The English Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in English language arts and literature while supporting the mission, philosophy, and values of the Catholic school. The teacher fosters academic excellence, critical thinking, effective communication, and a love of literature and writing in a faith-centered learning environment. The English Teacher serves as a positive role model by integrating Gospel values into daily interactions and promoting the intellectual, spiritual, moral, and personal development of each student.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with school curriculum and state standards in English language arts and literature.
  • Teach courses that may include grammar, composition, literature, vocabulary, speech, and research skills.
  • Develop students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages academic achievement, creativity, respect, and collaboration.
  • Assess student learning through assignments, projects, presentations, quizzes, tests, and writing assessments.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and maintain accurate academic records.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Integrate technology and instructional resources to enhance learning.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and school administration regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and other assigned activities.
  • Maintain classroom discipline in accordance with school policies and procedures.
  • Serve as an advisor, moderator, or sponsor for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Support the school's Catholic identity by modeling Christian values and fostering respect for the dignity of every individual.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, English Education, Secondary Education, or a related field required.
  • Valid state teaching certification or eligibility for certification preferred.
  • Previous secondary teaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of English language arts curriculum, instructional strategies, and classroom management.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred; all candidates must support and respect the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church.
