ENGLISH TEACHER - 195 DAY
Full-time, 195-day position located at Potomac High School in Dumfries, VA. An essential function of this position is the ability to work in person and physically report for work on site.
About the role
This position plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students. The teacher manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, modifies instructional activities as required, and carries out a variety of student monitoring and control activities.
Classes taught may be single or multi-grade level, subject, skill, or specialty oriented. Duties are typically performed within a team or departmental setting but may involve independent work in a unique teaching specialty. The position may be assigned to specialized labs (e.g., science, industrial arts/technology) where heightened monitoring is required to prevent accidental injury to students.
Work is performed under the general supervision of a principal and/or other designated administrator.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver an instructional program in English for high school students
- Manage student behavior and classroom dynamics
- Assess and evaluate student achievement through formal and informal methods
- Modify instructional activities based on student needs and assessment data
- Monitor and control student activities to ensure safety, particularly in lab settings if assigned
