About the role
The English Second Language Math Teacher supports multilingual learners in mastering math content while developing academic English proficiency.
Responsibilities
- Planning and delivering math lessons adapted for English language learners, using differentiated strategies and appropriate language supports.
- Auditing student progress in both math and English, providing constructive feedback, and adjusting instruction based on data.
- Collaborating with colleagues and support staff.
- Communicating with families.
- Maintaining accurate records.
- Participating in school-wide initiatives and professional development.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in English Teaching and Teaching English as a Foreign Language, with the ability to support multilingual learners in math classrooms.
- Strong Teaching experience in secondary education, including Lesson Planning that integrates language development with math content.
- Experience with IELTS or similar English language assessment frameworks, and familiarity with strategies for preparing learners for academic language demands.
- Relevant teaching certification or licensure for secondary math and/or ESL/ELL, in accordance with Illinois state requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Mathematics, TESOL, or a closely related field.
- Ability to create inclusive, culturally responsive classrooms and collaborate effectively with colleagues, support staff, and families.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills, with a commitment to continuous professional growth.
