About the role
Provides for instruction of students by developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials and presenting them using current instructional techniques that meet the needs of all students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings and activities. Monitors and evaluates student performance while developing and implementing plans to improve student performance. Maintains required records and follows required procedures and practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
- Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certification with an endorsement in English as a Second Language- NS or Bilingual YA-YM.
- Must submit to pass a criminal background check.
- Experience providing ESL support services to EL students.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration, and the general public.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population.
- A high level of commitment to working within a culturally, ethnically, and economically diverse environment.
- A high level of perseverance and professional will.
- A strong belief in the individual worth of all students.
- A desire to teach life lessons that go beyond the textbook and classroom walls.
- A readiness to develop and apply a variety of best practices in the classroom, especially in the areas of instruction and classroom management.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Instructs ELs to improve English proficiency and supports content instruction.
- Plans effective lessons based on the student's language proficiency and academic needs.
- Collaborates with teachers and other school staff regarding best practices to support ELs.
- Implements Title III requirements and guidelines.
- Develops and writes annual goals and short-term instructional objectives for students.
- Participates in Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Program Team (IEPT) meetings for ELs.
- Works as a team member with instructional staff and parents/guardians to refer eligible students to outside agencies and other community resources.
- Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining equipment and supplies for ESL/Bilingual services.
- Aids and support materials for EL students.
- Serves as a resource to school staff for EL students.
- Adds close with EL paraprofessionals.
