Position Summary

The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher will play a vital role in the support of English language learners. Supporting their academic and language development while creating a positive, relaxed, Christ like atmosphere where Christian values are modeled in actions and attitudes in a diverse multicultural community. Ensure students are fully equipped to engage in King’s multicultural and compassionate learning environment. Foster an environment where the teaching-learning process is God centered and students are free to express themselves.

Essential Functions

  • Christ-centered Leadership and Education
    • Model a committed Christian faith and personal relationship with Jesus and minister to the spiritual needs of students and our school community through all activities undertaken in Dean of Students role.
    • Educate students in a manner consistent with, and reflective of, the Christian tenets of the Statement of Faith and the CCC, including the incorporation of these shared Christian religious beliefs and conduct into all student curricula (sometimes referred to as integrating faith and learning, or integration of a biblical worldview) and programming.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the Bible and application of a biblical worldview to subject matter and Dean of Students conduct as a minister in our school community.
    • Through godly leadership, engage and inspire the academic, spiritual and emotional growth of students.
    • Be ready and available to lead staff devotionals and staff prayer.
  • Discipleship and Spiritual Development
    • Model a personal and growing Christian faith that aligns with CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Chrisitan Community Commitment (CCC).
    • Contribute to the spiritual, intellectual, social, and physical welfare of the students.
    • Minister to the spiritual needs of students and develop a vibrant Christian faith community.
    • Support the spiritual needs of students through relationship and personal modeling of your own Christian faith.
    • Lead meetings in prayer.
    • Instruct and be available to lead and support students’ spiritual formation.
  • Curriculum, Cultural Development And Language Assessment
    • Develop and Implement ELL Curriculum by:
    • Design and deliver effective ELL instruction, curriculum, and assessment strategies that cater to students’ language proficiency levels and individual needs.
    • Use scaffolding strategies to improve student comprehension and reduce student anxiety.
    • Conduct ongoing assessments to determine the English language proficiency levels of students and adapt instruction accordingly.
    • Foster a compassionate and culturally responsive learning environment that respects and celebrates the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of our students.
    • Provide ELL teaching support for grade levels 7-12.
  • Student Support And Communication
    • Maintain open and regular Christ-like communication with students, the International Student Program Director, colleagues to provide updates on students' progress and offer support when needed.
    • Provide individualized or small-group instruction to English language learners to help them develop their language skills, both in speaking and writing.
    • Collaborate with the International Student Program Director as well as Junior High and High School classroom teachers to support the integration of language development skills into the broader curriculum and participate in the development of Individualized Language Development Plans (ILDPs).
  • Professional Development And Data Analysis
    • Stay current with best practices in ELL instruction and language acquisition strategies and actively engage in professional development opportunities when approved and appropriate.
    • Utilize data and assessment results to track and report on students' language development progress.

Essential Qualifications

  • CHRIST CENTERED
    • Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.
    • A committed Christian who is dedicated to continued spiritual growth and development as evidenced through a growing personal walk with God (e.g. daily spiritual rhythms of prayer, fellowship, Bible study, etc.).
    • Prayfully seeks God’s will in their own lives and in their ministry at CRISTA.
    • Engages our ministry including staff and colleagues through prayer, participation in spiritual practices, leading devotionals and other spiritual practices.
    • Affirms, aligns with and supports CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
    • Conducts themselves in a manner which reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).
    • Demonstrates the values of a CRISTA leader.
  • EDUCATION
    • Minimum of an undergraduate degree and or a master’s degree in education.
    • Experience: Three years of teaching experience or a master’s degree in education and 2 years of teaching experience.
    • LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION: Current state or provincial issued teacher certification or a TESOL certification/endorsement.
  • SOFTWARE / EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE
    • Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Microsoft TEAMS and others as needed.

Other Considerations

  • Available for shift work in our international boarding facility as needed by the International Student Program Director/Boarding Director.
  • Ability to pass background checks relating to DSHS Secretary’s List of Crimes and Negative Actions. (WAC 388-113).
