About the role

Helix Mentorship & Maritime Academy is a college-and-career-focused public charter school within the Helix Community Schools network. The Freshman Academy serves as the foundation, providing intentional academic support, character development, and real-world learning experiences that prepare students for success throughout high school and beyond. Rooted in rigor, relevance, and relationships, HMMA empowers every student to develop the academic, social, and leadership skills needed to navigate their future with confidence and purpose.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, standards-aligned English I instruction based on Louisiana ELA standards.
• Use formative and summative assessment data to drive instruction, interventions, and enrichment.
• Create engaging, technology-enhanced lessons aligned with our status as a Verizon Innovative Learning School.
• Establish a positive, culturally responsive classroom environment focused on growth, respect, and accountability.
• Collaborate with colleagues in the Freshman Academy to align curriculum, pacing, and instructional practices.
• Build strong, professional relationships with students, families, and the greater school community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field (required)
• Valid Louisiana teaching certificate in Secondary English, or eligibility to obtain one
• Prior high school English teaching experience preferred
• Strong instructional skills and effective classroom management
• Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and equitable academic outcomes
• Ability to integrate technology to enhance instruction and student engagement
