About the role
Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for a full-time faculty member to provide high-quality, learner-centered instruction for students enrolled in English for Speakers of Other Languages-related coursework at any KCKCC location while supporting the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.
Responsibilities
- Teach ESOL courses with clear and measurable objectives.
- Maintain a student-oriented approach to education, including recruitment, advising, etc.
- Create and revise curriculum and assessments to enhance program effectiveness.
- Demonstrate ongoing professional development while sustaining desirable classroom results.
- Create opportunities for acceleration through the program by demonstrating proficiency.
- Prepare course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required.
- Provide regular, timely reports to students of academic performance, including current grades in course(s) taught.
- Successfully complete important assessment work.
- Utilize student-centered teaching strategies.
- Aid in intake and placement of new students.
- Aid in enrollment of new and returning students.
- Aid in advising new and returning students.
- Show commitment to the program, division, and total institution by timely attendance and submission of required grade, attendance, or other miscellaneous reports to the administration.
- Consult with students, faculty, administrators, and staff in support of program, division, and college-wide initiatives.
Qualifications
- A Master's or higher degree in TESOL, Linguistics, or Applied Linguistics.
- Experience teaching and relating to individuals from a wide range of academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in TESOL, Linguistics, or Applied Linguistics.
- Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college.
- Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
- Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.
- Fluency in a second language, especially Spanish.
Pay
$55,446.46 - $67,822.90. Commensurate with education outlined in the current collective bargaining contract salary schedule.
Schedule
Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
