About the role
Positions in this series require the application of principles, methods, and techniques in a specific or limited area of engineering, along with practical knowledge of construction, engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices, or materials. Under general supervision, the Level V performs moderately difficult sub-professional, technical functions supporting higher-level professional or sub-professional engineering activities, or supervises and works with a small group of engineering aids at Levels I to IV. Other duties may be assigned as required.
Responsibilities
- Perform moderately difficult sub-professional, technical functions in support of engineering activities.
- Supervise and work with a small group of engineering aids performing tasks at Levels I to IV.
- Apply knowledge of engineering terminology and mathematical skills to solve engineering-support or engineering problems.
- Engage in engineering-oriented functions such as inspection, testing, designing, surveying, drafting, and construction.
Requirements
- Legal Authorization to Work: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent, with courses in mathematics.
- Engineering-Support Experience: Four years of work experience in engineering-oriented functions such as inspection, testing, designing, surveying, drafting, or construction. This experience must include:
- At least one year of experience comparable to the Engineering Aid IV level, or
- Two years of experience comparable to the Engineering Aid III level in State government.
- Supervisory Experience (if applicable): Must demonstrate supervisory aptitude through prior experience or training, such as serving as a group or team leader, completing supervisory training, or receiving favorable appraisals indicating supervisory potential.
- Driver’s License: Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
Pay
$4,221 to $5,338 per month (SR-15, Step C - I). Hiring rates depend on availability of funds, applicant qualifications, and other relevant factors.
