ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (NUCLEAR)

About the role

You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (NUCLEAR) in the Production Resources Department, Nuclear Production Manager's Office, Code 300N of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Responsibilities

Duties include analyzing engineering specifications, drawings, and work plans, establishing detailed production repair for the reactor plant area on an assigned shift.

• Planning material, manpower, and special equipment requirements for conversion and/or repair of nuclear submarine reactor plant.
• Observing work in progress to ensure that safe radiological practices are followed, correcting immediately all radiological deficiencies.
• Ensuring proper manning levels to accomplish scheduled work and as necessary rescheduling manpower requirements.
• Reviewing technical work documents for workability on the waterfront.
• Providing technical assistance to projects and resource shops as necessary to ensure quality and timeliness of completed work.

Requirements

• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present.
• You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.

Qualifications

GS-12: Your Resume Must Demonstrate At Least One Year Of Specialized Experience At Or Equivalent To The GS-11 Grade Level Or Pay Band In The Federal Service Or Equivalent Experience In The Private Or Public Sector.

• Experience applying the latest developments in nuclear engineering to solve problems that are not readily treatable by accepted methods.
• Experience applying knowledge of related engineering fields such as mechanical and electrical and knowledge of naval nuclear radiological control requirements for shipyards.
• Experience understanding Production, Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Control Office requirements and responsibilities.
• Experience serving as the Production Resource Department's technical authority on shipyard nuclear production radiological controls and also quality and production techniques, associated with the repair, overhaul, refueling, decontamination, and operation of naval nuclear reactor plants.

GS-11: Your Resume Must Demonstrate At Least One Year Of Specialized Experience At Or Equivalent To The GS-10 Grade Level Or Pay Band In The Federal Service Or Equivalent Experience In The Private Or Public Sector.

• Experience applying knowledge of the radiological and quality controls as applicable to reactor plant and nuclear work facility systems.
• Experience preparing technical work document and conducting inspections.
• Experience applying concepts, principles, and practices of nuclear engineering.
• Experience applying knowledge of production based nuclear and reactor plant trade skills.
