Engineering Technician II

Responsibilities
Assist in the delivery of the City’s infrastructure development and replacement programs, focusing on construction inspection, design and plan preparation, topographic and construction surveying, public involvement, permitting, and records maintenance.
Perform construction inspection to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, standards, and contract requirements.
Coordinate material testing and sampling, measure and document quantities, and prepare cost estimates and quantity take-offs for infrastructure projects.
Prepare project plans and specifications, write special provisions, and evaluate alternative construction materials and methods.
Perform field surveys, stake construction sites, and conduct as-built surveys on City-owned infrastructure.
Assist with right-of-way permit reviews, follow-up with utility companies, and coordinate with property owners regarding construction projects.
Prepare and maintain construction project documentation, including progress reports, construction diaries, and monthly payment vouchers.
Communicate with the public and respond to inquiries and complaints related to department operations, construction, or services.
Assist in obtaining required permits for City infrastructure projects and monitor other agencies' work in City public right of way.
Provide technical assistance to Public Works divisions and other City departments.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Technical degree in engineering technology, civil engineering, or related field.
Knowledge of municipal state aid street standards and reporting requirements.
Experience in municipal engineering or construction-related fields.
AutoCAD and Civil 3D experience.
Experience with GIS software.
Ability to use electronic total station instruments and GPS equipment.
MnDOT Construction Technician Certification in relevant areas (if not already obtained).
Qualifications
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D or newer.
Knowledge of applicable work safety standards.
Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
Physical ability to perform essential job functions, including occasional exertion of up to 40 pounds of force, walking, standing, sitting, speaking, hearing, using hands, repetitive motions, and exposure to loud noises and mechanical parts.
Skills
Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D or newer.
Strong knowledge of municipal state aid street standards and reporting requirements.

Benefits
Salary range for the position is $34.23 to $42.65 per hour, DOE. The City of Coon Rapids offers a competitive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
