ENGINEERING TECH SKILLBRIDGE INTERN

The Role

This is an UNPAID internship through the Hire Vets Now (HVN) SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. HVN SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. Newport News Shipbuilding Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with Newport News Shipbuilding.

Engineering Technician 43123

Support facilities in either the technical services, project management, or crane engineering team. Provide engineering technical support on control engineering systems. Create, modify, maintain, repair and troubleshoot yard wide control systems software associated with equipment, complex machinery, utility infrastructure, building operating systems, Audio Video systems and submarine delivery/transportation systems by converting requirements into a functional user interface and control code. Troubleshoot control systems, provide technical control solutions and produce engineering documentation, technical reports, drawings (sketches, drawings, diagrams and schematics) and perform mathematical calculations using established formats, formulas and configuration guidelines. Involve specialized skills and experience with the specification and design of total controls package systems, relay interfaces, programmable logic controls (PLC), human machine interfaces (HMI), logic development, ability to program source codes, robotics/automation, and develop/review/update AUTOCAD drawings. Involve the ability to read and produce electrical / controls schematics. Collaborate with key stakeholders to meet unique requirements and work with hardware and software systems and platforms to deliver a system with robust capabilities.

• Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service.
• Transitioning Military candidates can begin applying within final 12 months of military service.
• Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.
