Engineering Team Lead
About the role
The Engineering Team Lead position is an engineering management role responsible for overseeing and managing engineering teams on Data Center projects. This role involves financial, resource allocation, logistical, and technical leadership, as well as mentoring and training staff.
Responsibilities
- Possess the ability to understand project requirements and develop a design fee for the work requested.
- Prepare and oversee work plans for engineering and production resources.
- Oversee Engineers, Designers, and Modeling staff assigned to team or project work.
- Able to communicate with Project Manager (PM) or Executive regarding effort required to accomplish an expected deliverables and project support.
- Lead the Engineering CAC effort and interaction with the project PM.
- Resolve a variety of complex problems (i.e. conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements).
- Supervise the coordination of the project with city, state, and county officials, and other regulatory agencies.
- Attend project design meetings with the overall Design Build Team.
- Perform Job Site Visits to review installation or assess current conditions.
- Perform Value Engineering studies.
- Act as Engineer of Record for projects within their responsibility.
- The duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and scope of the position. Other responsibilities will be assigned based on the position's role within the business unit.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in engineering, architectural engineering, or construction sciences.
- Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of Engineering Experience.
- Registration as a licensed US-based Professional Engineer (P.E.) is required for this position.
- Field experience is strongly recommended.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of engineering processes and calculations including load calculations, equipment layout, normal and emergency standby distribution, HV/MV distribution, lighting layout, lighting calculations, power and lighting controls, utility coordination, grounding, value engineering, applicable codes, and standards.
- Working knowledge of equipment and system testing and commissioning.
- The ability to assume responsibility, interface, and coordinate with others.
- The ability to analyze and resolve complex engineering problems.
- The ability to oversee Electrical System Studies such as: Short Circuit, Overcurrent Protection, Arc Flash, Voltage Drop/Droop, and Underground Thermal Calculations.
- Management skills are required, including work planning, resource management, fee development, staff oversight, staff development and advancement planning.
- Knowledge of electrical construction sufficient to understand how design packages will be built.
- Fluency with Building Codes and Local Codes in the local area of projects.
- Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.); Oracle preferred.
- The ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary.
- The ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- The ability to be self-motivated, proactive, and an effective team player.
- The ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, Trade Partners and others.

General work environment - sitting for extended periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted primarily indoors with varying environmental conditions, such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. Noise level is typically low to medium; it can be loud on a job site. Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
