About the role
The Department of Design and Construction has one (1) vacancy for Engineering Support Technician II in Honolulu. This position performs moderate and complex technical work in general support of professional engineering activities, including assisting with database management.
Responsibilities
- Field Investigations & Infrastructure Assessment - Assists in conducting site visits, bridge inspections, field investigations, and post-emergency damage assessments to evaluate infrastructure conditions and project needs.
- Project Documentation & Records Management - Maintains and organizes project records, as-built plans, and bridge inventory databases to ensure accurate and accessible documentation.
- Project Development & Regulatory Support - Assists in preparing project scopes, CIP justifications, permit applications, and supporting sketches and maps required for project approval.
- Coordination, Reporting & Administrative Support - Coordinates work activities, responds to complaints and service requests, and prepares reports and presentation materials for Division leadership.
Qualifications
- Education Requirement - Equivalent to graduation from high school with courses in mathematics.
- Experience Requirement - Three years of technical experience in engineering oriented support functions such as in research, data collection and analysis, inspection, testing, designing, surveying and/or drafting activities.
- Substitution - An associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering Technology or Natural Sciences will substitute for two of the required three years of experience. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, or in a Biological or Physical Science will substitute for all of the required experience.
Skills
- Knowledge of mathematics (including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry), engineering terminology, basic engineering principles, and applicable technical regulations and reference sources.
- Ability to apply engineering techniques and practices to solve technical problems, conduct research and evaluations, and perform related testing and analysis activities.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications; extract, compile, and evaluate data; and prepare clear, concise reports and technical documentation.
- Ability to prepare drawings, charts, and other graphic materials and follow oral and written instructions in a professional engineering support environment.
