Job Title Engineering Supervisor - Protection & Controls Location: Remote (U.S. based) FLSA Classification Exempt Job Description Orbital Engineering, Inc. is currently seeking an Engineering Supervisor – Protection & Controls to support our Substation Engineering group for a REMOTE WORK position. Primary responsibilities include leading a team of engineers and designers in the design, development, installation, and maintenance of electrical substations. Responsible for development of P&C design packages for clients across the US. Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class from small distribution equipment upgrades to large transmission projects. Essential Functions Leadership and Team ManagementLead a small team of designers in the design, development, installation, and maintenance of electrical substationsManage the execution of p&c design projects of all sizes, including resource planning, risk management, and project deliveryConduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and manage career development for designersBudget and Resource ManagementPrepare or oversee the preparation of cost estimates and schedules for p&c design projectsAllocate direct reports effectively to meet project demandsWork closely with project managers and design managers to ensure that the portion of the project that is assigned is executed efficiently and to high standardsDiscuss any staffing needs with design managers as they ariseTechnical ExpertiseProvide technical leadership and mentorship to direct reports, fostering professional growth and ensuring best practices are followedOversee the preparation of p&c designsEnsure the timely resolution of design issues, providing expert troubleshooting and problem-solving supportClient and Stakeholder InteractionAct as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring strong communication and coordination throughout project lifecyclesCollaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution and timely delivery of servicesAssist in the preparation of proposalsCompliance and SafetyEnsure compliance with all relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations for electrical substationsQuality AssurancePerform quality reviews of your direct report’s workContinuous ImprovementAssist in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize substation design, operation, and maintenance processesStay current on industry advancements, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to maintain the company’s competitive edge Other Duties Please note that this job posting does not list all duties and responsibilities that are required of this job. Qualifications Minimum of 4 years of experience in the design of electrical substationsPE license highly preferredGood written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholdersAbility to effectively organize multiple protection & controls design assignments and competing priorities to produce accurate products on time Experience managing design projects, including budgeting, scheduling and risk managementAbility to collaborate in cross-functional work teamsDemonstrated analytical and decision-making skills, and a successful record of positive interactions with clientsExperience in creating and reviewing substation p&c design drawings Proficiency with current software applications used to perform substation design workAbility to successfully work with remotely located team membersThis position requires the ability to pass a post-offer drug (including marijuana) and alcohol test in compliance with Federal regulations and is also subject to random testing as a condition of continued employment. Location Note: This is a remote position. Compensation is based on market data and internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s location.
