Leadership and Communication

Leadership and communication skills commensurate with leading a team of technical professionals in Engineering, Design, and Drafting.

Technical Competency and Direction

Advanced understanding of protection and control fundamentals as they apply to utility substation and transmission line equipment.

  • Expert in design of protection schemes for substation and transmission line equipment, including bus, line, capacitor and transformer protection schemes and associated settings.
  • Create and improve processes for P&C designs, including P&C one- and three-lines, AC/DC schematics, panel drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Advanced understanding of SCADA communication design.

Project Management

Expert in the principles of project management.

  • Create quality control checklists for substation P&C design project scopes, estimates, budgets, one lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, settings, relays, and SCADA.
  • Perform calculations and studies using client specified software and standards.
  • Write specifications and implement them on engineering drawings.

Supervision and Mentorship

Oversee the work of junior staff and mentor designers/drafters.

Design Accuracy and Adherence to Standards

Create quality control checklists for substation P&C design project scopes, estimates, budgets, one lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, settings, relays, and SCADA.

Collaboration and Communication

Collaborate, communicate, and liaise effectively with other design disciplines, colleagues, construction contractors, consultants, materials suppliers, and clients.

Site Visits and Issue Resolution

Visit sites, advise on physical engineering issues, and modify design to solve issues during construction.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years’ experience as a practicing engineer.
  • Supervise 4-8 direct reports.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an EAC/ABET accredited Engineering Program OR an approved evaluation of non-ABET credentials by NCEES OR graduation from a Master’s or Doctoral Program in Engineering from an institution with EAC/ABET accredited Undergraduate Engineering Programs.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
