Engineering Review Specialist

About the role

Responsibilities

  • Review engineering plans and permit materials for conformance with regulations, ordinances, and common engineering practices
  • Build a better understanding of possible regulations and requirements by reviewing publicly available data and maps
  • Provide review comments through markups or written comments
  • Meet or coordinate with clients remotely, in an office setting, or on construction sites regarding review comments, project needs, and submittal timelines
  • Resolve comments and address regulation requirements with developers remotely, in an office setting, or on construction sites
  • Organize work and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines
  • Coordinate with department heads, project managers, or other review specialists to meet project deadlines and objectives
  • Assist in-house design and construction staff with internal improvements
  • Aid department heads and project managers in developing review scopes of work, schedules, and budgets
  • Understand and adhere to safety guidelines

Requirements

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Illinois or equivalent experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Drivers license with good driving record
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification, preferred

Qualifications

  • Independent and self-motivated
  • 5+ years of progressively more challenging assignments
  • Experience on IDOT/ISTHA projects or equivalent
  • Experience reading and interpreting municipal, county, and state ordinances
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in MicroStation
