Engineering Program Manager

About the role

Plans, directs, and implements all aspects of the company's design and development of new medical device products or software systems. May develop, evaluate, implement, and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products. Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies, guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes, or products, and directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, and implements design and development of new medical device products or software systems.
• Develops, evaluates, implements, and maintains technical quality assurance, control systems, or reliability systems and standards.
• Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
• Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes, or products.
• Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.
• Manages feasibility studies to determine if designs function as intended.
• Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development.
• Coordinates activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
• Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure efficient operation of the function.

Requirements

• Practical experience leading and managing the execution of processes, projects, and initiatives within a defined functional area.
• Advanced knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline.
• Understanding of how work impacts other areas of the organization.
• Bachelor’s degree required (or, for degrees earned outside the United States, a degree that meets the requirements of 8 C.F.R.214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A)).
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Experience in the medical device or other regulated industry (FDA, ISO 13485, design controls).
• PMP, PgMP, or Agile certification (Scrum, SAFe).
• Experience managing large, complex, or global engineering programs.
• Familiarity with systems engineering, hardware/software integration, or connected devices.
• Experience working cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Manufacturing teams.
• Experience with program management tools (Jira, Smartsheet, Azure DevOps, MS Project).
• Demonstrated ability to manage external partners or vendors.
• Experience with budget tracking, resource planning, and executive-level reporting.
• Experience supporting product development from concept through commercialization.

Pay

Salary ranges for U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) locations: $142,400.00 - $213,600.00. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location.
