About the role

The successful candidate will oversee the operation and maintenance of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure for Data Centers (DC) in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud regions. Our technicians are operating and maintaining AWS DCs' world-class mechanical and electrical infrastructure. In addition to technical operations and maintenance, the successful candidate will oversee facility operations and ensure the implementation of safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain availability for customers
  • Ensure maintenance and operation of technical infrastructure
  • Upkeep and operation of the DC facility
  • Follow and maintain the highest safety standards and diligently encourage a world-class safety culture
  • Own the safety initiatives and projects to foster strong safety culture
  • Operational experience and familiarity with electrical and mechanical equipment, including Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS’s), Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS's), Diesel Generators, Chillers, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), Exhaust Fans, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's), and Transformers
  • Troubleshoot events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA’s)
  • Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log-taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.)
  • Supervise contractor or Engineering Operations Technicians to ensure proper operation and maintenance of all facility equipment
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts on infrastructure through standardization of procedures and policies, while delivering performance against agreed metrics
  • Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and assist in recruiting efforts
  • Lead the root cause analysis for operational issues, and conduct meetings with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to finalize mitigation strategies
  • Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required (weight limits in accordance with regulations)
  • Ability to work shifts (morning, late and night)
  • On-call rotation reaction to off-duty emergency calls

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of key electrical competencies and theory
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC systems, Controls)
