Engineering Operations Lead - Lunar Permanence
At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. We are building sustainable infrastructure for the transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) program, working directly with NASA and our National Team Partners.
About the role
As part of a hardworking team of engineers and program managers, you will ensure that Flight Software products are delivered on time to meet commitments within the Lunar Permanence organization. You will quantitatively manage scope by presenting status, risks, opportunities, variances, and recovery plans to engineering and program leadership. Leading the execution of an agile process for week-to-week planning and tracking, you will serve as a Scrum Master to drive efficiency in the team’s execution. This role involves maintaining alignment between program-level plans and day-to-day execution, tracking key performance metrics (cost, schedule, risk), and playing a key role in developing the Lunar Permanence system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond Earth.
Responsibilities
- Develop robust plans for product deliveries and lead tracking of key operating metrics, including technical, cost, schedule, and risk.
- Identify and define problem statements and build realistic project schedules; may manage an assigned budget with purchasing authority.
- Work with technical leads to define program scope and create program plans.
- Resolve technical objectives of assignments to develop approaches to solutions with minimal direction.
- Provide regular status updates and resolve project discrepancies (schedule, budget, resources, etc.).
- Engage with developers on significant issues to report to senior leadership.
- Partner with Responsible Engineers (RE) and Team Leads to own the technical success of product development.
- Help run contracts and produce statements of work.
Requirements
- 5+ years of project management experience related to software development.
- Experience with Project Management Tools such as MS Project, P6 Primavera, or similar.
- Ability to earn trust and maintain positive, professional relationships.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or another technical field.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NPR 7150.2D and safety-critical applications.
- Software development experience.
- Program Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Earned Value Management System (EVMS) experience.
- Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management, and Cost Account Management such as EVM.
- Familiarity with agile project management and tools like Jira.
- Experience automating schedule health evaluations and continuously improving schedules.
- Experience with verification, integration, and test of orbital launch vehicles or human-rated spacecraft.
Pay
Base pay range for WA applicants: $121,023.00 – $169,432.20. Other site ranges may differ.
