About the role

The Verifications team is responsible for a broad portfolio of screening products that empower informed decisions across Checkr's enterprise customers. Key responsibilities include employment and education verifications, drug and occupational health screenings, reference checks, and right-to-work screenings. These products must adapt to various compliance and screening requirements in different industries and regulatory environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the Verifications engineering team
  • Own the reliability and quality of a broad portfolio of fulfillment integrations
  • Partner with Product to define and execute the roadmap for employment, education, drug and health, and compliance products
  • Drive technical strategy for scaling a complex, integration-heavy system
  • Lead the team's adoption of AI-assisted development practices
  • Represent Verifications in cross-functional planning

Requirements

  • 4+ years as an engineering manager, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams
  • 8+ years as a software engineer, with strong command of service architecture, distributed systems, and system design
  • Experience managing complex third-party integration environments
  • A track record of improving operational metrics
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development and agentic coding tools
  • Experience working on regulated products where data accuracy and legal compliance are non-negotiable
  • Strong incident management skills
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A genuine investment in developing people

Pay

We use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop ranges for our roles and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range. If this role is remote, we have listed the top to the bottom of the possible range, but we will specify the target range for an exact location when you are selected for a recruiting discussion.
